All Souls 2020: Worship Resources

Thank you for joining us as we commemorate All Souls: the Faithful Departed

Here you can find resources for our Sunday liturgy to pray at home or wherever you are

Preparation

Opening: The Kontakion of the Departed

Give rest, O Christ, to your servants with your saints:
where sorrow and pain are no more;
neither sighing, but life everlasting.

You only are immortal, the Creator and Maker of all:
and we are mortal, formed of the earth,
and to earth we shall return:
for so you did ordain when you created me, saying,

Dust you are and to dust you shall return.
All we go down to the dust;
and, weeping o’er the grave, we make our song:
alleluia, alleluia, alleluia.

Give rest, O Christ, to your servants with your saints:
where sorrow and pain are no more;
neither sighing, but life everlasting.

Confession and Absolution

God is love and we are God’s children, there is no room for fear in love.
We love because God loved us first. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith.

Silence

God our Father, we confess to you
and to our fellow members in the Body of Christ
that we have sinned in thought, word and deed,
and in what we have failed to do.
We are truly sorry.
Forgive us our sins,
and deliver us from the power of evil.
For the sake of your Son who died for us,
Jesus Christ, our Lord.

God, who is both power and love,
forgive us and free us from our sins,
heal and strengthen us by the Holy Spirit
and raise us to new life in Christ our Lord.
Amen.

The Collect

Father of all,
we pray to you for those we love but see no longer.
Grant them your peace,
let light perpetual shine upon them,
and in your loving wisdom and almighty power
work in them the good purpose of your perfect will;
through Jesus Christ our Lord,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

The Liturgy of the Word

You can find the texts of the readings on the pew sheet

Psalm 23

(in communion with those in church, you are invited to join in saying the text,
pausing shortly at the * asterisk)

Refrain: I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

The Lord is my shepherd; *
I shall not be in want.

He makes me lie down in green pastures *
and leads me beside still waters.

He revives my soul *
and guides me along right pathways for his name’s sake.

Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil; *
for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

You spread a table before me in the presence of those who trouble me; *
you have anointed my head with oil, and my cup is running over.

Surely your goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, *
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Refrain: I will dwell in the house of the Lord of ever.

Act of Remembrance

You are invited to light a candle in memory of loved ones who have died.

The Liturgy of the Sacrament

In church, the service continues with the Eucharistic Prayer, the Breaking of Bread and Communion

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Do not bring us to the time of trial
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.  Amen.

Thanksgiving and Sending Out

A Blessing is pronounced:

The peace of God,
which passes all understanding,
keep our hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of God,
and of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord;
and may the blessing of God almighty,
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit,
be among us and remain with us always.
Amen.

Go in peace to love and serve the Lord.
In the name of Christ. Amen.
